Why Talk?
When people visit a therapist it is because their behaviours or thought patterns are not supporting them effectively or positively at a a certain point in time. One of the challenges for a therapist is that most behaviours begin with positive intent e.g. smoking to relax… and we all know now the poor health it can lead to! However with patience and empathy it is possible to uncover the root cause behind habits of behaving or communicating which are not leading a client towards a positive or desired outcome.
Engaging with a professional ensures privacy is maintained and therefore behavioural, thinking or habit changes can take place at a pace which suits the client and they are free to monitor and measure their successes and areas of challenge in their own way. A different perspective is gained which leads to new insights and learning and opportunities to implement effective change.
The degree of pressure someone can be feeling at a stressful time in their lives is reduced by talking to someone outside of their immediate circle. Therefore talking with a therapist ensures that no personal relationships are threatened by the exchange of sensitive information.
